 The AIIMS Nursing Officer NORCET (Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test) is a national-level examination conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to recruit Nursing Officers for its constituent institutes and other affiliated hospitals.




The exam is a two-stage process:


NORCET Preliminary (Stage I)  

This is a qualifying exam consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) for 100 marks, with a negative marking of 1/3 marks for each wrong answer. The questions are divided into two sections:


- General Knowledge and Aptitude (20 MCQs)

- Nursing Syllabus (80 MCQs) The exam is held in a computer-based test (CBT) mode.


NORCET Main (Stage II): 

This is a 3-hour long exam consisting of 200 MCQs for 200 marks, with a negative marking of 1/3 marks for each wrong answer. The questions are divided into three sections:


- General Knowledge and Aptitude (50 MCQs)

- Nursing Syllabus (100 MCQs)

- Medical Terminology (50 MCQs) The exam is held in a CBT mode.


The syllabus for the NORCET exam is as follows:


General Knowledge and Aptitude: 

This section covers topics such as current affairs, general science, mathematics, reasoning, and English language.

Nursing Syllabus:

 This section covers topics such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, pathology, and nursing care.

Medical Terminology: 

This section covers the basic medical terms and abbreviations used in nursing.


The eligibility criteria for the AIIMS NORCET exam are as follows:


The candidate must have a B.Sc degree in Nursing or Diploma in GNM.

The candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a minimum 50 bedded hospital after acquiring the educational qualification.

The candidate must be a citizen of India.

The candidate must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a Nursing Officer.

The application process for the AIIMS NORCET exam is online. The application form can be filled up and submitted on the AIIMS website. The application fee is Rs. 1000 for general category candidates and Rs. 500 for reserved category candidates.


The admit card for the NORCET exam will be available on the AIIMS website a few weeks before the exam. The exam centre will be allotted to the candidates by the AIIMS.


The results of the NORCET exam will be announced on the AIIMS website. The qualified candidates will be called for a document verification and medical examination. The final selection of candidates will be made based on their performance in the NORCET exam, document verification, and medical examination.
